Mrs. Spence’s English 10 class visited the Shenandoah Valley on Wednesday, October 18th. Their first stop was at the Green Valley Book Fair in Mt. Crawford, a discount book outlet. “I don’t like to read that much, but I found books that I’m really enjoying,” said Sallie Rutrough.
After a stop for lunch at Mrs. Rowe’s in Staunton, the group went on a backstage tour at the American Shakespeare Center, which features the world’s only replica of Shakespeare’s indoor theater, the Blackfriars. The students not only saw the interior of the theater, but also got to visit the props and costume departments, the dressing rooms, and under the stage’s trap doors.
“Seeing the theater helped make what we are learning in class more real,” said Abby Mason. Abby Meeks agreed: “Getting to stand on the stage was really cool.”
