Academically, Christian Heritage Academy is a “traditional” school in that, at the elementary level, we offer the basics of reading (with an emphasis on phonetics), writing, arithmetic, grammar, vocabulary, history, and science. We recognize that each student is unique in his/her personal interest, educational levels, and especially in their learning styles. Our goal is to stimulate learning in every student through recreational opportunities, field trips, hands-on activities, and sound teaching.
Our Pre-K program is a developmentally appropriate, Biblically-based academic program that includes Bible time (with stories, songs, and memory verses), letter time (which introduces each letter and sounds), number time (with lots of fun counting!), and even some science and health activities. We also have library, art, and physical education. No grades are given since this is a kindergarten-readiness program.
Painting, gluing, cutting, working with play-dough, building with blocks, and even some planting and cooking activities are all part of the fun and learning experience. Combine all of this with lots of outside play time, snack, lunch, and a time of quiet rest, and you can see that the days in our Pre-K program are full.
Gesell Kindergarten Assessment
Prior to entering kindergarten, students are given the Gesell Kindergarten Assessment. This assessment provides insight into a student’s developmental age and, in addition to teacher observation, can be useful in determining age-appropriate placement for each student.
Our elementary classrooms are housed in a building separate from our middle and high school classrooms. Each of our elementary level classrooms are self-contained, meaning that students are assigned to one main classroom and teacher, but leave their room for music, art, physical education, computer, library, and foreign language classes. With each new class, they are introduced to another member of our teaching faculty who is excited to share his/her area of expertise. The faculty look forward to developing solid relationships with the students. Lunch is held with other elementary classes in a community lunch room. Currently, students are required to bring a lunch from home as we do not provide a lunch meal program.
At Christian Heritage Academy, our work to equip each student with a Biblical Worldview begins by building a foundation of faith during the elementary grades, starting with Pre-K. Through a systematic teaching of the Bible, each student is trained in the moral, ethical, and doctrinal fundamentals of the faith. In addition, character traits such as patience, faith, humility, thankfulness, and obedience are instilled at each grade level.
The elementary grade levels are a very important part of our school and are included in a variety of “all-school” activities. Elementary students often attend pep-rallies, sporting events, all-school chapels and assemblies, and may participate with our secondary students for various projects. With the unique development students go through during these years, we create unique experiences meant only for the elementary grade levels. Students in grades K-5 have opportunities to participate in elementary chapels, assemblies, and special events throughout the year. In addition, we offer elementary students the opportunity to compete with other ACSI schools in spelling, math, and science competitions.
